I stopped counting when I got near 1k and I’m probably over it now. On one hand I don’t expect to spend as much next year because this year was about broadening horizons and trying a lot of different kinds of tea, so theoretically I should spend less next year because I’ve narrowed down my preferences a lot. On the other hand… pu’erh.
Unfortunately I didn’t stop counting at 1k.. Ahh.. to live in blissful ignorance would have been fun.
Yeah…puerh, good luck, I added up my tea spending this year and I’ll just leave it at I don’t want to publicly post that number. I plan on spending more next year to solidify my collection. After that I’ll probably slow down and only mass buy things I REALLY like
ppffbt. I’m easily over 1k on like a 30k salary. Lol. I’ve been spending $100-200 per month alternating between W2T and Yunnan Sourcing, with some early in the year orders approaching $300 due to bonuses. Been calming down a little though, earlier I was focused on building a collection, now I’m content to just replace as I drink (which is heavy).
I have spent over $1k already on puerh and not done yet I’m sure, two months left in the year. My tea club is $360 a year just by itself, and honestly that is a bargain for how much Im getting out of it.
A dollar a day for monthly installments of tea? Of course it’s a great deal :)
I just can’t get down on the tea club thing… I’d rather spend that $360 on cakes and samples of my choice. Maybe you can convince me otherwise?
Ive just signed up to some, I quite like the idea of someone choosing something different for me, alongside my usual quest for tea i like for the best price – and you dont need to sign up for a whole year, im going to try it for a couple of months and see if i think its worth it or not
I can see how that would make sense for someone learning about tea, or just looking to branch out, but I already have a relatively wide exposure to different teas and know pretty much what I like and what specifically I’d like to learn more about… like I said, I’d have control over what I get.
Just have to say, Global Tea Hut is my ‘must have’ recommendation for those who love tea and talk about subscriptions to me.
I keep looking at the clubs but haven’t joined. My problem is that there are certain categories of tea that I’m just not into, so unless I do a very narrow club, some tea will go to waste.
Same, Dr. Jim. White2tea and YS Dark club look promising, and I’ve almost joined a couple times but keep passing as they’re just a little too varied.
“over $1k”
I guess you could say that about me too… makes the total not look so bad :P
Liquid Proust, whats nice about the Global Tea Hut sub?
I have some buddies who have that sub. It’s pretty cool, but more of a magazine subscription than a tea club. You get a magazine with articles on tea, and a 25g sample of something they picked out. It’s usually pretty unique, and all the samples I’ve tried have been excellent. Also, I’m pretty sure GTH is a cult…
I don’t think it’s anywhere near 25g, maybe 10. I’ll go weigh mine in a bit.
I just saw this :)
It’s cult like for sure, but the information is beautiful. I pledge my money for what they do to spread information on tea and the exclusive teas as well as pictures and community gifts. I just ignore the whole spirtual aspect of tea that others includes in GTH… we all percieve and believe differently.
I find it to be worth the money every month.
Starting a new post so no one in the mini-thread will receive spammy notifications about my updates.
October total: $82.35
Yearly total: $258.35
Went over my budget. I’m aiming for $350 now. ‘Spect it’ll go over again if I would make it an even 300, now that November is upon us. I’ll try restraining myself in December.
Total spending so far:
$92 Capital Teas
$52 Harney & Sons
$65 Teavana
I dread to think.
O Oolong, y u no cheapest tea?
I’ve spent more this month than I have all year.
DAVIDSTEA: $107 (that also includes some tea cups and a travel mug)
Teavana: $39.95
Adagio Teas: $51.75
Total: $198.70
This year I have bought some pu erh for at least 3-4 years (I only drink puerh once or twice a week, only when I have enough time to enjoy it properly).
So at this year, if we take into account the green, black and pu erh, I have spent around $250. Maybe for many people here won’t be too much, but for a student it’s a fortune.
November- $10 on tea from local shops.
